Welcome Parents! This page outlines important policies and resources to help you support your student in the Kids Write Novels program.
The parent orientation video is a requirement for all parents whose children are enrolled in this program. It was created to help you prepare so your child can successfully complete the course and self-publish their book.
This video explains the program’s guidelines for respectful communication and appropriate content, ensuring that every student can share their work in a safe and supportive environment.
Students are expected to help maintain a positive and respectful environment within the Kids Write Novels community. This means using appropriate language, avoiding offensive or threatening content, and being mindful of tone when posting.
While the broader literary and entertainment industries frequently explore alternative, dark, or postmodern themes, that is not the focus of our program. We do not permit these darker styles in our community spaces, as our goal is for students to immerse themselves in a distinctly uplifting experience grounded in strong morals.
Please take a moment to watch the KWN Rules and Acceptable Content video above and discuss it with your student to help us keep the community a positive experience for everyone.
Why we collect tuition in advance:
By collecting the first month’s tuition at registration, accounts stay one month ahead throughout the school year. This means the last tuition payment will be in April, covering the final month of classes in May. This system keeps payments predictable, prevents late‑payment issues, and lets us focus on supporting students instead of managing billing problems.
Important: Tuition payments and purchased books are non‑refundable.
Written notice must be sent to admin@innovativepress.org at least 5 business days before the next month begins. Late withdrawal requests will require payment for the upcoming month. Curriculum purchases are non‑refundable.
We send updates via email, text, and the LMS. Please check these channels regularly and ensure our messages are not blocked or filtered.
Guiding a new teen author through writing and self-publishing a novel is an intense and complex undertaking. Doing so remotely through a national program adds a level of difficulty that most educational organizations will not attempt. However, we know how profoundly this journey changes students' lives for the better, as proven by the thousands who have successfully completed the Kids Write Novels program. Because of the sheer scope of this project, consistent communication is the absolute foundation of your student's success.
There are three primary ways to stay connected with important information:
Student to Student Communications: Every year, there are outside group chats created by students (such as Discord or Google Chat) that are not monitored by KWN, and we strongly advise parents to discuss this with their students. While these groups are intended to build positive connections within the student writing community, parents or instructors do not supervise them directly.
