The best thing I learned when taking the class was how to plan it out and the best ways to do so, and also how long to take on the planning.
It was amazing to publish my first novel. It’s so exciting to see copies of my own book on my bookshelf. Seeing my own words and my own story printed on paper has been my dream for so long, and I finally reached that goal.
I like the Kids Write Novel course because it lets me write about what I like to write about. I think I learn best when I like the topic, and why would you write a book report when you can write the book? Besides, what better way to learn about books than by making one? Throughout this course, I feel empowered to write what I want to write, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I would love to take it again next year.
My instructor helped me figure out how to create the plot to make it seem like a novel, how to write better dialogue, and how to describe stuff.
It felt really good to look at my book and it actually be there and not just on paper (or) in my computer.
I just really liked feeling the cover of the new book and knowing that I made it.
My mom can tell you I was jumping up and down quite a bit when I received the actual physical copy of my book.
It helped me figure out my writing style, how to write in general. It has definitely made writing both creative and informational writing a lot easier.
I really liked being able to communicate and see the other students, it was a lot more fun than just watching a computer, or just reading a workbook with no interaction.
I learned a ton about plot development, character development, how to effectively tell a story in a way that delivers emotion and the readers can enjoy it.
Writing is a great skill to have and I’ve grown so much as a writer in the past year just by writing this novel.
I’m completely convinced I will forever be an author, and I want to thank Miss Sarah Reid for pulling that out of me and helping me find my life calling.
The only problem with the Kids Write Novel classes is that my kids love it so much I have to tell them to stop writing and do the rest of their school! My middle school boy hated writing until this year when he started writing his own novel. He has loved being able to choose what to write about and express his creative ideas instead of being told what to write. He is getting great feedback from the other students as he develops his characters and his story. Thank you!
It was her favorite course work to do this year. She grew so close with her classmates and her community, and I think it was a bunch of like-minded individuals that fed off of each other. I mean, it’s not very often that you meet kids that specifically want to write at fourteen.
I think the program is designed for the kids to work autonomously, and I would allow that.
It’s a great opportunity for them to learn how to manage deadlines, how to manage instructor feedback, that kind of thing.
I love that it gave them an avenue to actually learn how to do the self-publishing and to really dive into what their writing style was and how to improve it.
If your kid is kind of even tinkering in the writing, it’s a good place to go, because it gives them a more structured format, but it also gives them the advice and camaraderie with the kids that are writing as well.
The program has literally changed Mercy’s life. It’s changed her whole family’s life.
There’s no better class than this where it’s a full language arts class in a year… You know, you can teach them lessons, or you can immerse them in an experience where they have to do this creatively.
From where she started writing, from the very first month, to where she ended up, her maturity has just gone through the roof, and it’s really because of Miss Reid’s program.
We love this program! School is never a fight for my aspiring writer now. In fact I've even had to tell her to take a break for family time on several occasions. The lessons are helpful and the teacher is great. I've seen awesome growth in her writing in just a few months. She loves that she will get to publish and is thriving in the online community. I am so thankful that I know it's safe and that she's loving her learning.
Reading her book toward the end, it was like getting to see this treasure box inside of Ellie getting unwrapped… and that is because of Mrs. Reid unlocking that gift.
For me, as a busy homeschool mom, it’s just wonderful to have somebody else that’s teaching your daughter in an area that is their expertise, and they’re passing that on to your kid.
